I live with my wife, Lyn, in a low impact, temporary dwelling, off the grid, in a clearing in a forest, half way up a mountain with a bunch of other animals and a big garden. We've been here for fifteen years now and try to live more lightly on the earth every year. We have limited electrical power from renewable sources and hence limited access to computers and the net. This is steadily improving as we add in more stuff.

Permaculture Design offers us an integral, holistic approach to addressing most of the challenges we currently face, covering the environment, community and the self. It helped me make sense of my very varied past experiences and gives me a lot of optimism for the future.

I use “designer” in the broadest possible sense, believing that “design” is the natural, creative human response to world challenges and opportunities, at any level or scale, from clothes to landscapes.
